Top CRMs for non-profits can be very tricky to define–because every non-profit has its own requirements and needs, we can’t possibly tell you which one is perfect for your non-profit.  We can provide you with this guide for which ones you might consider in your CRM evaluation.  But like everything worthwhile, you need to give yourself some time to evaluate each one.  We truly recommend trialing each one for a minimum of a week in order to identify the specific one that works best for your unique needs and those of your non-profit.

What is a Non-Profit CRM and how can it help your organization?

A CRM is a Customer Relationship Management tool. Some people may use SaleForce (hard!) others might use a Google Doc or Excel spreadsheet.  A good CRM is more than just a digitized address book. CRMs offer you additional functionality including emailing, donor software, and more.  Many different types of companies use them, but when a non-profit uses them, it basically is a list (database) of your contacts, details about your contacts, and allows you to manage your relationship with them. For example, a non-profit may have these types of contacts and each data point that is collected is different:

  1. Clients – fields can include name, address, progress reports, etc.
  2. Donors – names, addresses, donation amount, conversations, emails, when and how much they donated, etc.
  3. Funders
  4. Grant Management – there are also different tools for Grant management
  5. Contact List – people that you have on your mailing list that don’t have much interaction – yet!
